Day 26. Up at the crack of dawn and down to the local airport to catch our Shoal Airways flight. Young Matt was our pilot of the little Cesna single engine and, although I was nervous at first, we soon took off to a cruising height of 3,500 metres and it suddenly became fantastic. Down over the expanse of blue Lake Argyle, across the big cattle stations of Lissadel and Texas Downs, then a double loop around the brilliantly coloured beehive domes of the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park). Highlights were the deep narrow Picaninny Gorge, Cathedral Gorge and Echidna Chasm. I must walk this area next visit! Turning north crossed over the Bow River and looped over the huge open cut Argyle Diamond Mine, source of the precious pink diamond. Then out over the Pentecost River and red mesas of the Cockburn Range, across El Questro Homestead, Chamberlain Gorge and Home Valley Station. Finally, a sweep across Wyndham and the snake-like King River with its white salt flats, down the wide sandy curves of the lower Ord River and back to Kununnurra. A really marvellous 2.5 hour flight which brought together all our travels below over the past week. Downtown to our favourite coffee shop for pies then a lazy afternoon reading and swimming by the lake. Dinner tonight downtown with our friends at the local pub. What a great day!>
