Week Twenty-Four
Fri-went to the cinema with Paul to see James Bond "Casino Royal"- what a film no cheese in sight! Even didn't mind a blond James Bond thought Daniel Craig was pretty good. All in all a very good watch.
Sat - Drove to Kaikoura for Whale watching, which we booked for tomorrow luckily as all trips today were cancelled due to rain and strong winds.
Sun - What a day for sailing and whale watching - blue skies and a calm ocean. Headed off out to sea on our special boat "Paikea" meaning whale rider. The ride out was very fast and a little bumpy - but what a view you could see the Kaikoura peninsula which was amazing. We stopped by another boat which had spotted a sperm whale and waited as it submerged from the sea, spouting blasts of water into the air every now and then - wow! Even managed to see it take its last breath of air and the dive back into the deep - with a final flick of its tail- what an experience. We then sped off to catch the glimpe of another sperm whale spotted further away. This time the crew actually knew the whale known as "big nick" due to the big nick in its tail. He glided past as gracefully as the first and once again took its big dive into the deep.
On the way back to the shore we came across a huge pod of dusky dolphins swimming and somersaulting right upto the boat - amazing - Paul attempted to take some pictures but they were all too fast!! After we landed back on dry land treated ourselves to 'fush and chups' - yum!!!
Week Twenty-Four
Fri - cinema with Paul again, this time to see a comedy by Ali G- "Borat". Ali G taking the mick out of the Americans, what more can i say - how funny!! (Warning this film contain scenes which may disturb some people - fat naked hairy men wrestling need i say more!)
Sat- My office christmas party at the Belgium beer cafe just around the corner from our pad - food was ok nothing special.
Sun - "Our 6 year anniversary" Paul took me to a Morrocan restaurant on Cashel St. good lamb and beef cous cous - turkish delights!
Week Twenty-Five
Tues - Went to the cinema to see "The Holiday" with a few friends from work - anaria, jess, tracey and pam. This film was a definate chic flick - sooo soopy but makes you feel all warm and fuzzy in side.
Fri- Last day at work another 3 months of holidays to look forward to!!! Paul's Christmas party at Portfino lovely food, good company. Went to a few pubs with Pauls mate Stu, who were both very drunk. Tried to get into a local night club but Paul was refused entry as he was too drunk, i think it was more to do with the fact the Paul was joking with the bouncer and they have no sense of humour it seems!
Sat - Did some last minute xmas shopping at the local arts centre trying to pick up a few new zealandy items for Paul. Bought myself a few items too of course.
Sun "Christmas Eve"- Headed to Riccarton Race course market for some more xmas shopping, we've been trying to go to since we got to CHCH and finally made it - what a cool market! Lots of nick nacks and a very cool stall selling really old fossils.
Mon "Christmas Day" - Prepared xmas dinner and left it cooking while we strolled around the park on a beautiful sunny day (different). After many attempts at trying to do a christmas video for the folks back home gave up and headed home for the traditional dinner and xmas pud. (P: and traditional xmas afternoon kip!!)
Week Twenty-Six
Tue -"Boxing Day House sale" After packing up the house, we had our "garage sale", about 4 groups of people turned up, expecting a bit more than we had to offer i think, we sold the iron and a bowl for the grand total of $6 NZD (that's two pound to you and me) Wow!
Wed - Finished off packing up the flat (wow we're really got a lot of stuff!) cleaned the house and headed to Cash Convertors to sell the remainder of our stuff. Were astonished at how little they offer you for things, headed home a little disappointed. We still had our very cool retro sofas and were wondering what to do with them as we were meant to be leaving today. Anyway the people who had bought our iron took the sofas off us for a staggering $30 NZD (about 10 pounds). Ahh we'll miss those sofas.
Packed the car up to the limit and headed off for a long journey to Murchison, managed to camp up at about 10:00, very tired and wet.
