Week Seven -
Socialised with Paul's work colleagues - crazy golf - very architectural golf as well. Had an interview with Nurse Maude to be a PA, interview went well (fingers crossed). Went out for a Japanese meal at Ebisu (sushi, teriyaki beef etc - very yummy). Saturday - Drove up the mountains as it was very sunny, went for a tramp in the bushes at Broken hill (not brokeback mountain) - had to climb over and under lots of fallen trees. Managed to get to Arthur's Pass but the weather changed for the worst - started to rain so decided to go for a coffee instead of another tramp. Got a copy of the walkers guide will have to attempt Arthur's Pass another weekend. Sunday - Walked around Hagley Park as it was another glorious sunny day. Went to see "The Aura" an Argentinian film to do some research for next year. The film was pretty good - very eerie and moody. Very worth checking out!!! (This was the last film from the Christchurch Film Festival)
Week Eight -
Saturday - Dropped Paul off at the airport - he's off to Auckland with his work colleagues for the day. I spent the day watching video's as the weather was pants!! (Apparently was nice in Auckland - boo hiss!!) Sunday - Went to New Brighton Beach for a walk. Not much there - although lots of beach and a really cool library right on the front. Strolled along the beach and up along the Pier.
Week Nine -
Last week working for ING, on Friday had a morning tea with cakes and sandwiches bought in for me - very nice. Saturday - Paul's birthday went to see the Local team Canterbury (as a surprise) vs Otago. We won 22 -17. Was really good will have to go again. Sunday - Headed off to Mount Hutt for some skiing. Weather was gorgeous - check out the pics. Had a lesson in the morning (i think i slowed the group down a little) But am feeling a lot more confident about the slopes now!!!. Crashed out in the evening as it was a long day. Good weekend all round i think!!!
Week Ten -
1st week at Nurse Maude (work, work, work). Went to see "Building the Gherkin" to remind us of home. Was actually very interesting. (Architecture Film Festival) Saturday - After a busy previous weekend - spent Sat lazing. Sun - Spent the day at Sumner, strolling along the beach and eating icecream.
Week Eleven -
Saturday - Headed to the stunning Akaroa, south of Christchurch, what an amazing place. Akaroa is on the Banks Peninsula and was the first place in New Zealand to be sighted in 1770 by Captain Cook. In the 1850's Akaroa was the first place the French attempted colonisation when arriving in NZ, despite being 5-6 days late after the Maori kings had signed the Treaty of Waitangi with us Brits. (A bit of History for you)
Went for a tramp to the Heritage Park up the side of the crater - amazing views of the harbour and mountains. As we started to walk back into the town was attached by a crazy magpie, apparently guarding its nest from us!!!. Swooped down for us twice - pecking paul's head, leaving us to leg it down the hill faster than Linford Christie!! (Maybe not). In the evening had a scrumptious meal at Dooberries cafe, the waiter was cockney and a bit too openly chatty - telling us that his brother's wife was welsh but was now dead as she'd taken a tumble down the stairs a few years back - lovely women though??? Sunday - Spent the day walking around the art centre in Christchurch - both reflecting on how great NZ is for the weekends!!!
Week Twelve -
Saturday - Went for another drive to Godley Head, from there we went for a tramp along the cliff path down to Taylor's Mistake beach. Another gorgeous day and no crazy birds in sight. (Although saw one magpie chasing some seagulls off - but we avoided it luckily) Sunday - Another day at Sumner beach - went to see the soppy film "The Lake House" which was quite good and it had some architecture in it for Paul.
Week Thirteen -
Saturday - Ventured back upto Hamner Springs for the day - rented some mountain bike and hit the mountain tracks. Very cool, got muddy too!! Then spent the late afternoon soothing our achy muscles in the Thermal Pools. Had a lovely tapas meal at the local cafe. (Cat - not as good as Gambas pil pil at Gunwharf). 30th September - hit the six month mark! leaving the UK on the 30th March, its now day 182!!! Sunday - Chilled again. Late lunch and maybe a Indian Movie this arvo.
