3rd May 2006 - Day 33
Had a comfortable nights sleep, woke up to find that we were 3 1/2 hours behind schedule, which meant that we would miss our breakfast as it was given to another train. Were told that we would get lunch but when it arrived they only had enough for half the train and instead of spreading it between families, they gave it one half of the train and we went without!! Luckly had lunch a few hours later as we were starving. Arrived in Mumbai at 1:00am and were very tired as we had been travelling since 4:30pm the previous day. Got a taxi from the train station out of town to the central station, where we were catching our next train at 5:50am. There was a dispute between the taxi driver and Paul, as Paul had paid the taxi 500 rupees and the man was denying this. I hadn't seen anything - anyway the man found the money on the floor in his cab - claims he had dropped it - yes right!!!!
4th May 2006 - Day 34
Very long day stayed up waiting for the train to arrive, heading to Margoa, Goa. Waiting in the station watching the crowds get busier and busier, watched as Police officers lining people up and marching them down to their trains - very organised. Decided to walk to the track to find our train, were greeted by a 'very helpful' porter who then proceeded to bark orders at us, sit down, stay there!!! Just as the train arrived the porter then decided to drag Paul off somewhere, snatching his ticket and marching away. The porter seemed to take Paul to the front desk at the beginning of the station to get our seat numbers - which we already had!!! Anyway Paul and the porter then returned and then snatched my bag and stomped off up the track towards the train. We were chasing after him - telling him we didn't need his help. Got to our cabin where he demanded 100 rupess for 'his services' - like hell!!! Gave him 10 rupees to get rid of him. The 1st a/c sleeper we had this time was very nice although needed a face lift as the wall paper was very 1970s. Shouldn't moan though as the place was cool and above all peaceul with just the two of us - bliss!!! Managed to get some sleep and had some lovely food on the train. Arrived in Margoa on time - big city, full of people and traffic - glad we're only staying 1 night!!!
5th May 2006 - Day 35
Woke up this morning eager to leave Margoa for a beach resort - further south - Palolem. Had trouble trying to get a bus to Palolem, different people telling us different things. Managed to get a bus to Chaudi and then a rickshaw to Palolem. Arrived at Palolem and was astonished to find a lovely white beach surrounded by palm trees and beach huts / cafes. The place we'd booked was right on the beach - perfect!!! Had a swim and just chilled out for the rest of the day in cafes on the beach. Glad we're staying here for the rest of our trip - well deserved chill out time.
6th May 2006 - Day 36
Spent most of the day chilling in the shade on the beach. Swimming and reading. Decided to get a henna tatoo on my hand - which was a little overpriced but oh well. Its very nice although maybe a little too overstated!!! It lasts 3 weeks aswell and its very black. Wasn't really concentrating on the sun lotion and got a bit burnt on him back and shoulders!!! Ow!! Met a lovely couple who are staying next door to us, Brendan and Katie (shes English, hes Australian) Very bubbly and funny!! Spent the rest of the evening talking and drinking in the local Cuban bar.
7th May 2006 - Day 37
Spent the day stolling around the shops, relaxing on the beach and listening to music. This is the life!!! Updated our diary and Paul exported some more pics onto the website, there seems to be too many pictures so have to try and cut down on the picture taking. Had a lovely meal in one of the fish restaurants on the beach front, hope we'll still feel good in the morning.
