Journal entry brought to you by Tami (with toothache) Hey everyone! Wow. Feels like a really really long time since I’ve written one of these. I am aware that we have fallen behind and I can only apologise, we WILL catch up soon, fingers crossed. So this Sunday was the commemorative celebrations of the Sydney Harbour Bridge’s 75th anniversary of being opened. Everyone was supposedly going to walk across the bridge today, like all of Sydney, so we thought we’d go along for a laugh. We’d heard from someone that everyone who wished to do this had to sign up on the website, but we tried and they told us there were no spaces left. We decided we’d go anyway – if they wouldn’t let us cross, we could always come back to the hostel. Anyway on the way there, me and Sophie, Chris and Emma talked to lots of people who had walked already or were about to walk, and most of them hadn’t registered online so we weren’t that concerned that we wouldn’t be able to do it too. We got the train over the bridge to Milson’s Point, then began the walk. About 100 metres in we were given a free baseball hat each, depicting the bridge and a big number 75 on an insanely green background. We wore these with PRIDE. There were thousands of people crossing, and they were playing really victorious music so we all felt like we were returning from battle as we marched across, heads held high……you can imagine it now. Was a lot of fun. When we had completed the bridge, we went to get some of the “World’s Best Water” (don’t ask), and then took a walk to the Botanical Gardens, where we stopped for a couple of hours and revisited our youth by rolling around on the grass, doing cartwheels and teddy bear rolls, and generally having a really fantastic kiddy time on a large patch of grass. Sophie fell asleep. Then we walked back to the hostel and cooked dinner. I have no idea what I had as it was 10 days ago. Then later that night, Sophie, Chris and I walked down to Mrs Macquarie’s chair to look at the bridge and opera house as they were all illuminated for the celebrations. From there I rang my Mum as it was Mother’s Day, and it was a truly surreal feeling sitting on a wall, looking at such a phenomenal sight while talking to people 12000 miles away. Just want to also use this post to say, hey Mum, hope you are well. I love you loads and loads and hope you had a nice Mother’s Day. (Also Sophie says the same to OMF)
