Friday 21st February
Today was the last day in Auckland and the sun was out and about all the do-da day! It must have been over 30 degrees and it was lovely.
After a change of rooms and building at the Verandahs hostel and a breakfast in the sun me, Dave and his man size blisters decided to go on a ferry trip to Waiheke island, which is just 40 mins away and absolutely beautiful!
There is not a whole lot to do there, but the nature and views are amazing! We rented bicycles for the day and started to pedal towards Onetangi, which is one of the two beaches there. After about 2 mins we were exhausted and had to walk for a bit.
When we finally got to the beach we were both sweating like pigs and Dave's blisters from another mister were starting to out grow him, so it was the perfect time to get our towels out and lie by the beach and just enjoy the sun. I wanted to go for a swim and the water was really nice, but when I got a bit further out there were loads of big seashells that I was stepping on and it felt like they were attacking me, so I just crouched down quickly and ran back to shore.
Onetangi also has some shops, a food shop and some restaurants and after we walked around for a while, me stopping every other second to take a picture, we made our way back towards the harbour and the ferry. The way back was much more fun and easy as it was downhill pretty much all the way!
When we got back to Auckland we were quite worn out from the biking and being in the sun all day, so on the way back to the hostel we bought some pizza slices and some nice drinks that we brought back to our room and ate out on the balcony watching all the lights come on at the Sky tower.
Now Dave is "resting his eyes" and I'm sitting on the bed listening to a German guy who is on Skype with someone making animal noices and saying "mein Englisch ist so schlecht!"
Tomorrow morning we are checking out of Verandahs and leaving Auckland and going to the Bay of Islands and Northlands region for a few days. It's supposed to be really nice there with great beaches and I'm looking forward to it.
Auckland has been so good though and we will miss it, but I'm excited to see the smaller regions and cities of New Zealand too.
Dave has started to snore now so I'm gonna go to sleep as well since we have about 4 hours of travelling tomorrow.
Hugs and Kisses,
Jenny and Dave
