Hello from New Zealand!
We have finally arrived and after an early night/afternoon yesterday and about 17 hours sleep we feel much better, less jet-lagged and ready to explore Auckland!
First though, let us tell you about our travelling days....
Monday 17th of February
We set our alarm for 8 o'clock to give ourselves a lot of time to finish packing and everything before we had to leave for the train, but of course we ended up stressing anyway, mostly me, and left the house 10 mins after we were supposed to. In the last minutes before zipping up the backpacks I remembered that I had forgotten to pack my trekking shoes, that I bought just for this trip...
We got First Class tickets to London and we'd heard that there would be a buffet for us on the train, so we didn't eat much before we got on and were really hungry...only to find out there were no food at all on London Midlands trains and that the Virgin train had the buffet.
Luckily we stopped at Stafford station for 8 minutes so I ran out and got us some food.
We arrived at London Euston at about 5 pm and got a taxi through London to Paddington station and the Heathrow Express which only takes 15 mins instead of the 60 mins it takes with the normal train.
Just carrying the backpacks from the taxi drop-off point and inside Heathrow Airport made us think we packed too much, but we decided to ignore that and went to check them in.
Security and even the waiting around for about 4 hours for the flight to depart went by pretty quick and after we got in the plane and had something to eat, and I had spilled some orange juice on my neighbours leg, we fell asleep.
Tuesday 18th February
I can't even remember when we arrived at Singapore airport because all of the different time zones are getting me so confused, but the layover time was about 2 hours, so just enough time to stretch our legs, have something to eat and walk around in their lovely Butterfly Garden.
The second and last flight to Auckland and New Zealand went really quick and before we knew it we were there.
Wednesday 19th February
Thankfully both of our backpacks arrived and customs went a lot smoother than I thought it would - I was expecting, and was prepared for, Nothing to Declare so I got a bit disappointed there.
The airport is quite small so we just bought some SIM cards and picked up some brochures and got on the Airport express bus to Central Auckland and our Backpacker lodge.
Once we checked in and dropped our bags off, we went to look around for a bit and had something to eat.
After that we were so drained and jet lagged we just went back to our room, had a shower and went for a nap, that lasted for 14 hours.
Tomorrow we will explore Auckland properly and we'll tell you more about the weather, the city and everything else.
But everything is okay and we are really happy and excited to finally be here!
Hugs and Kisses,
Jenny and Dave
