So Wednesday has arrived and our trip to Rotorua in Rosie started well with our battery being flat just as we waved goodbye to the farm family, pretty embarrassing...
After quickly fixing that, we were on our way and the road trip went really good and smoother than orange juice spilled on a leg!
We cruised in to the lake side of Rotorua and went out for a leg stretcher and a look around before taking on the task of trying to find our crazy hostel Cactus Jacks. And I'll tell ya, it looks crazy! It is an Old Texas themed hostel with painted jails, stables and everything in-between.
But crazy as it might be, it is cheap and we actually really like it.
After unloading Rosie and getting her a free parking space to rest her engine for the night, we headed out sightseeing!
We wandered the summer-city streets of Rotorua, had lunch at a place called the Fat Dog and when entering the Garden area and the Government Gardens, we stumbled across the Rotorua Museum which is in this massive, absolutely beautiful old fashioned building (see photos, soon).
We just had to go in and take a closer look and after 2 hours inside the museum; from the cellar, in which they advised people over 168 cm to wear a plastic minors hat, up to the very top of the wings, we were glad we did. You could tell they have put a lot of time and money on making each segment and part of the museum a true experience. With heaps of Maori culture, their beliefs, how they first came to New Zealand and their struggles from then up until today.
Unfortunately you weren't allowed to take pictures in, what we thought, was the best part of the museum, so you're just gonna have to go there yourselves to see it ;)
We did get lots of pictures of the stunning garden in front of the museum though.
Now we are quite tired as it has been a long day already, so we are going to have an early night to charge our batteries for tomorrow and our unexpected journey to Middle-Earth!
We haven't had much luck with finding a decent internet connection yet, but as soon as we do, we will upload lots of more pictures and videos for you to enjoy :)
