Morning
OK, the enevitable has happened! We are in the remotest place yet (no showers, a drop toilet, no phone signal, no civilisation, lots of flies) and the truck won't start. We tried pushing it 3 times to jump start it and tried 2 new batteries which were purchased yesterday, but to no avail. Ben had to use the satellite phone to call a fire truck to come out to help jump start the truck from his vehicle. We've decided to move camp tonight to somewhere a bit hiller and less remote so that tomorrow it's easier to push the bus (which weighs about 15 tonnes!) downhill. Oh the fun and games begin….
Afternoon
Despite the truck issues, we managed a day in the Bungle Bungles and then drove to a layby by the side of the Great Northern Highway somewhere between the Bungle Bungles and Turkey Creek where we have set up our tents for the night. Ben left the truck running all day, including during our walks and during lunch so that we could actually get out of the national park. The morning was overcast but still hot, and we went on some shortish walks to Cathederal gorge and also to a lookout. On the way back to the bus we strolled along the domes walk. The Bungle Bungles are dome like structures which are sandstone but appear as black and orange layers where bacteria have coloured the black layers and the orange layers dried out too quickly for the bacteria to thrive. The appearance is definitely unique. After lunch we drove to Echidna Chasm which was a walk where the gorge walls got narrower and narrower until about 1km inside the wall met and the gorge ended. It was a fun walk. We departed the park via the 53km 4wd track again and now we are enjoying the road trains as they pass through (at night they look like the coca cola Christmas truck with all their lights from the advert).
