20th July-
Up early so that I can get a good start at the Platvice lakes national park. Stopped at the store on the way for some supplies and then drive the 10km to the entry number 1. Grabbed a hat and then headed into the park. I walked towards the big waterfall first. Then Contuined along the three smaller lakes to the ferry station p3. The water is super clear and this most amazing blue/ torquise colour. There are fish swimming all around. Also lots of smaller waterfalls and creeks all around... It is really beautiful. Caught the small boat across the large lake and then started walking around the upper section of the park. Ran into a friend from my busabout tour so spent the next hour and bit walking and talking with her. Caught the boat back across the lake and then walked through the cave up to a path on the higher level. Parted ways at the bus stop as I walked the upper path back to entry one. This path provided for amazing views over the park. In particular you could see the lower section with the gorgeous terrace lakes and mountains all around. Left the park just after lunch. It was early than I was planning but it is a long drive back to split and I am not feeling well so want to be able to take it steady with lots of breaks. Drove through rural parts of Croatia till I reached the tollway. Stopped for lunch after an hour and a bit of driving. Contuined driving with a couple more stops reaching split just after 4pm. Found my way back to the rental shop without getting lost. I am feeling a lot more confident with my driving.
Walked to the hostel were I had stayed in split before to try and get a room for the night. They were full. Called a few other hostels but were all full. Lucky the lady at the reception was also calling places and found a room in a private house for me. The lady walked down from her house and meet me at the hostel and then we walked together back to her house on the hill. It was a 15 min or so walk up the hill but this meant that there was a great view out over the sea and port from the balcony. Dropped off my bags and then back into town for some last minute shopping and looking around before enjoying dinner on the water front. Walked back up the hill and enjoyed sitting on the balcony with jadranka (my host) as the sunset. She also a family of turtles that live on her balcony was watched them for a while and talked about everything till my coughing got to bad and I had to go to bed. She believed that honey would fix my cold... I couldn't refuse as she didn't seem to understand so I ate honey and drank honey tea.
