We needed fuel and liased with the people who collected the dues from the U-Boat pens to collect at 0900 on the othewr side of the harbour, so casting off in good time we duly collected fuel from his bowser. As luck would have it the gas tap failed when I tried to make tea this morning and I asked for help and said I would take a berth on the Yacht Club on the SW side of the harbour while waiting for an engineer. The YC manager helped us in and made us very welcome. Sadly we put up with the much disturbed night on the U-Boat pen rather than using a welcoming but very small facility at the Yacht Club between the pontoons 1,2 and 3. If you are visiting Borkum, which you might well have to, try the YC first as they are sheltered (hence quiet), clean, friendly and the shoreside is much nicer. They can accommodate up to 14m I am sure.
We departed Borkum at 11:00 and set off NWwards before passing Borkumriff and turning to the East. Starting in a F5 SW it soon dwindled down to Var 1-2 and we motored through to Norderney but tried taking a route in from the NW which was a big mistake, so returned seawards, found the SWM and took the recommended passage in. This was shallow at 2.5m and very scary as we were expecting a minimum of 4m, but I guess the storms of last weekend moved sand in from the North silting up the entry. Once inside the draft increased and the marina was found, but they don't use VHF so one is left in the care of helpful people who arrived before us.
WiFi is advertised and access codes given but it is not as useful as a ????, must buy a German data SIM tomorrow. Lovely meal in the YC tonight giving Wendy a little treat for a Birthday (plus one day) girl !
