The wind had eased down from the 30+kn it was blowing yesterday, but it was still blowing 16kn straight at us in the marina as we set off for Germany at 11:00 this morning. Once outside the harbour of Sonderborg we made for the safe water mark, opened the sails, shut off the engine and had a nice quick sail around the huge lighthouse of Kalkgrund and crossed from Denmark into Germany.
Changing courtesy flags we romped down the Schleswig coast and turned into the Schlei. We motored right the way up the fjord to Kappeln and having refuelled on the town quay took a berth in the private marina downstream. This was recommended by a German in Sonderborg and he came out to tell us where an empty berth could be found, and helped us in to it.
We have had a look around the town, a pretty, architecturally interesting place with a Hanseatic influence and a good selection of restaurants along the waterfront.
The forecast is a bit damp so we will move on in the rain tomorrow and take the Kiel canal to Rendsburg, about 20 nm to the canal and about 20 nm along the canal, hopefully a sail in the morning and then a motor along the canal as sailing is not permitted - and ve must do as ve are told - ya!
Our Rally Captian, Nicholas has just released the video he produced of the rally, it can be found by clicking this link....
