Arrived in Amsterdam to more snow! Evan's been here before so we stayed at the same hostel he had previously stayed at. (stayokay Amsterdam Stadsdoelen) This being my first hostel experience I didn't know what to expect but it wasn't all that bad. We chose to stay in a room with 16 beds total but seeing as how it's such a slow travel time it wasn't near full. The bathroom was a co-ed one shared with everyone else at the hostel.
Amsterdam is an incredibly gorgeous city, even with snow. It was literally freezing cold, but we didn't let that stop us from going out and exploring everyday. The people of Holland are the nicest you'll meet, and I don't think we came across a single soul that couldn't speak English perfectly. All of their signs, menus etc. have an English side which made it easy to get around.
In Amsterdam we visited Madame Tussauds wax museum, The Dungeons, the Red Light District, a coffee shop, took the advice of a local and went to an authentic Dutch market (so cheap!), did the Heineken Brewery tour, went on a pub crawl and did a lot of shopping! The shopping was awesome, it went on forever and I loved just about everything in every store. I found the prices to be comparable to home but we seemed to have gotten lucky and it was winter sale time so neither Evan or I paid full price for anything we bought. I don't think I could fit even a pin in my bag it's so full. That's going to make shopping anywhere else hard...
