In the summer months Santorini is a lively tourist destination with no shortage of things to do. In the winter, that's a whole other story. Everything shuts down and there isn't even an option of which tour to participate in, as there aren't any! You have the choice of flying to Santorini or taking a ferry, due to shortage of funds we decided to take the ferry. Again, in the summer it sounds like the ferry ride wouldn't be so bad but in the winter there is only one boat a day, and it does the 'milk run' between a few of the other islands so the ride is long and boring, not to mention both Evan and I were sea sick the whole 8 hours. Arrived on the island and took a public bus to our hostel, where we got dropped off at the top of a hill and told to walk "down the hill". Instead, this cute little old couple saw us, immediately pulled over, asked us where we were going and told us they would give us a ride as the owner was his cousin. Greeks, they're all related to each other somehow. We spent our first evening finding a place to eat dinner, and came across a place called Graffiti that ended up only being a café. It had the game Backgammon which is Evan's new favourite so he taught me how to play that before we left to eat dinner. Valentines day was our second day and the weather sucked. We rented a car to drive around the whole island and despite the monsoon happening outside we saw beautiful black and red sand beaches and stunning views every which way we looked. Evans birthday is on the 15 and I had planned a surprise wine tour for him, which luckily the weather held out for. It was a neat experience but didn't help me to like wine anymore then I used to :P Our final day we spent hanging out in Graffiti waiting for our evening ferry. This one left at 7:30PM to arrive in Athens at 5:30AM where we would take the metro right to the airport. We splurged for a cabin this ride (big spenders right hurr) and it was definitely worth it. Got a good sleep in before a day of travel to Berlin, Germany!
