Next, we biked over to Seppenrade, a village that used to be separate, but is now considered part of Ludinghausen. The village has a large beautiful old church, constructed in the 18th century, which actually has the remains of six older churches (dating back to around 800 AD) on its grounds. Wolfgang also showed us a replica of a 50 million year old fossil found in the area.
Next, we biked to Olfen, where we met Doro and the two Julia's for ice cream goodness.. The 'eis' shop there, run by a transplanted Italian, makes the most incredible banana splits, with loads of ice cream, whipped cream and fruit. Excellent!
Finally, we biked back to Ludinghausen, where we had an incredible BBQ, champagne, and the Canadians' best rendition of Oh Canada. The evening was crowned by watching the Spaniards destroy the Italians in the Eurocup final.
Amazing Canada Day, one we'll never forget. Full credit goes to our hosts... They are very hospitable and a lot of fun to talk to and learn from. A big thank you to them!
