I'M MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Firstly, I'd like to say that I cant believe it is March already, and that I have managed to survive two months without you lot back home. It has been hard, and although I have not been feeling homesick that much, I do miss my way of life back home. It's come to a point that I have realised when my eight months here sadly comes to an end, I will be leaving home, not heading home.
The past month has been extremely busy, with various events going on around the Children's home. We held a valentines disco, which was a hit with all of the children, who all of which scrubbed up very nicely with their best clothes on. Helping the girls get ready, doing their make up and helping choose what to wear was the highlight of the night. A few days later there was a large sports day event, in which most children were taking part competing against another children's home. This was a fun day, for both the volunteers and the children. All of the volunteers got stuck in cheering for our little ones, and big ones, while the children provided dance and music louder than the music itself. When we got here we were told that "sport's day's" here in South Africa where a large scale event, and I can see why.
Valentines day- The day I hate so much.
Considering the above statement, I had a great day! We spent the day on the beach, which to nobodies surprise I got burnt to a crisp, but the weather was warm and I honestly couldn't have asked for more. Well, maybe for the sea to be a tad warmer….
That night we had a braii at the children's home for Kathi's departure, (if you read this hun we miss you so much!) which was lovely! Everyone had bought lots of meat and Kathi had made a lovely salad for us to share. It was a really nice evening, and all the volunteers were together, which is a very rare occurrence as there is so many of us.
Booked tickets to see the script in June, which I am over the moon about! I would like to personally thank Eilidh Quinn for spotting it :P I honestly cant wait! The script are an incredible band, who are amazing live. Front row standing, could it get any better?
February had been a month that consisted of going out loads, meeting lots of new people, eating far to much MacDonald's, spending way too much money and seeing lots of new things on our many road trips. Lots of volunteers have come and go, but now its time to settle into work. We start our new shifts plan on Monday, and I am finally off nightshift! I'm really looking forward to dayshift. :)
