"Fear is Temporary, Regret is forever"
So as you are all aware and have most likely seen all the pictures, I recently did the world's Highest bungee jump at 216m at Bloukrans Bridge, on the border between eastern and western cape. We took the Garden Route, a well known tourist drive along the coast to get to it. The drive took a good 7 hours, an hour of which was added on due to the mountains of road works we had to on go along the way. There is no question as to why this route along the coast is so famous. With breath taking views and stunning towns to stop on along the way, it truly is an unforgettable experience in itself. Sadly, our whole journey consisted of rain and thunder storms so the limited view of around 4ft in front of you wasn't quite my idea of "stunning".
After a long journey, we finally arrived at our stop over for the night. "Wild spirit", a backpackers located in Nature Valley, was perfect as it was only a ten minute drive to the Tsitsikamma National Park, where the bridge is located. The backpacker was very "hippy" orientated, with various fire and spiritual dances performed every night. From our dorm, we had a balcony which overlooked right into Nature's Valley, a perfect view to watch the sunrise and sunset from. I could have quite honestly stayed there forever... the location was perfect, surrounded by forest and rivers and mountains. Everything was very environmentally friendly, which obviously interested me.
We set of the next morning around 9ish, and headed straight to the Bungee Jump. Our "Bungee Time" was 11am, but we had to set off to the bridge at 10.45. In order to get to the centre of the bridge, we had to walk across a metal cable bridge suspended alongside it. This terrified me, which I couldn't understand because I was as cool as a bean about doing the bungee jump itself.
It was silent when we arrived at the station, with only the sound of the wind behind us. Thankfully after our orientation they started to play music, which helped calm the nerves I still did not have.
Standing at the edge was such a strange feeling. It was a mixture of fear and excitement, a feeling you could not describe in till you have felt it for yourself. The next thing you know, you are falling and falling and falling without a care in the world, taking in the views of the valley below. The fall itself lasts around ten seconds, which feel like the longest ten seconds in the world. I would recommend everyone if they ever had the chance to do a bungee jump to do it, as it is an unforgettable experience which I would do over and over again given the chance.
"Next time backward, yea?" Is the first sentence they say to you when you arrive back at the station. Hell yea! Was the only words I could reply.
