Sorry guys that I havnt updated this blog in a while! Three months to be exact! As most of you all know myself, Charlotte Nutton, Annabel Moore and Marco Colbourne headed up the Garden route, Wild Coast and Drakensburg Mountains for a well deserved holiday for two weeks! After weeks, even months of counting down for the day to finally arrive, it did. Poor ellie was the one who volunteered, and took us to catch our first bus at 7 in the morning to Plettenberg Bay. But needless to say the ten hours travelling to our first stop was more than worth it. We headed straight out that night after a well deserved nap, and met the most awesome people. A good too many shots, a few head grenades and a twenty minute taxi journey later we found ourselves in a deserted underground club, which looked as if it was packed with underagers. But there was such a great group of people with us that we had met at a bar before hand, that we didnt seem to care. A great night was had by all, apart from charlotte who managed to get a chip stuck in her throat from a mid morning steers trip.
Day Two
The next day we enjoyed a quiet day in Plett bay , which involved a failed walk to the beach! and headed to storms river that evening. Storms river is a beautiful place situated within the t***kamma National park :) We had planned on doing some tubing. Unfortunetly, as it is now winter the water was too low, meaning that we couldnt do tubing this time of year. Instead, we did an activity called Canopying. This involved a fair few of zip slides, soaring through the many indigenous trees the national park had to offer. After a long and tiring day, we got back on the Baz Bus and headed towards Jefferys Bay, one of the Surf Capitals of the world.
Day Three
After a brilliant night out at the backpackers, Island Vibe, We decided to spend the day horse riding. Most people would assume that being in one of the most well known surfing areas in the world, surfing would have been our priority. However the sub zero tempatures that the sea surrounding South AFrica has to offer this time of year, it wasnt right up there on my list of most wanted. However, Horse riding was an unforgettable experience in itself. That evening we headed to Port Elizabeth, where we had a quiet night to recover from our unmentionable(on the internet) anticts at island vibe backpackers the night before!
Day Four
Myself, Annabell and Charlotte visited a very cool snake and reptile centre. Very chilled day, just what we needed! Not much else to say about this inless you want me to bore you all with the facts of many different snakes.. I think not...
Day Five
We stopped in East London, saw some awesomely cute cheetta babies and thats really about it :)
Day Six
CHINSTA! Me and charlotte decided to leave annabell and marco for the night and head to chinsta, as they didnt want to join us. When we arrived it was pouring with rain, and when we left, it was yet again pouring with rain. Typical Garden Route weather, but it didnt stop us from having an ace time! Four Gingers and a few scottish, and we had taken over the place.. watch this space, Us gingers will dominate the world one day..
Day Seven
So the evening before we travelled to Coffee bay! Lets just say their use of tabs and not money at the bar is what destroyed my bank balance! But the cool cave walk and cliff jumping experience made up for it, and it was a great weekend in Coffee bay had by all. One thing I learned here, is that I can no longer hike...
Day Nine
Durban! :) So we stayed in a backpackers right on florida street, a famous "going out" street in Durban! After a night out with the staff at the backpackers, We did all our souveniour shopping at Vic market! Sadly, Ushaka marine world was not open, so we couldnt go into the Aquariam.. extreme sad times! But i got some lovely stuff so maybe I got you a present :) Maybe I didnt :P...
Day Eleven
The drakensburg Moutains! The Amphitheatre Backpackers is an unreal place. Jakusi(sorry for my terrible spelling) in the bar, and breath taking views of the drakensburg mountains was as near as you can get to heaven! He had planned on doing a lestho tour, but sadly there was protests going on at the border which ment we could not enter the country. We had a great day at the Golden Gate National Park instead, and saw just as much as we would have seen in leshoto anyway. All in all, a great day was had by all!
As you can all probably tell I am getting a bit tired of writing now, just as much as you lot are all getting tired of reading, but you will all hear of my experiences in more detail when I get home!
I dont know if most of you are aware that I am moving projects in a week, To a place called Mthatha. I am really excited, as it will be a new experience in a totally different project to durbanville. But I will miss the children here an unreal amount, along with all the other volunteers I have met along the way!
No matter what happens Durbanville, Cape Town will ALWAYS be my home away from home. I love you guys!
And as for those I love back home, I will see you all in less than 8 weeks now. Better have a great big party planned, yeah?
