Monday 16th August
Hello paradise! We have arrived here on the beautiful island of Aitutaki in the Cook islands (in the South Pacific), after flying from Reno and connecting through LA and Rarotonga. The airport we arrived into is absolutely tiny and basically just a shed! The scenery here is stunning and the island is so completely different to anywhere we have ever been! The ocean is absolutely beautiful and there is lots of wildlife everywhere, including chickens and goats wandering the streets. The local people are so friendly too, and as we passed them today on our travels so many shouted hello and waved. The villa we are staying in is very luxurious and enabling us to get some much needed relaxation!
We rode bicycles out to eat at a lovely cafe this afternoon (and enjoyed some yummy pancakes and milkshakes), which ended up being quite a distance away and quite a trek for well-travelled legs and old bikes without brakes (the only way to stop was to pedal backwards!). Once we got on the bikes it was actually a really lovely way to travel round the island, as we could see all the amazing scenery and wave and say hello back to all the locals who waved to us.
We have also booked some trips for the forthcoming week and will hopefully blog about them when we can. Hope you like the pic, which is just before sunset this evening. We will try and add a couple more pics this week (if the very slow internet lets us that is!).
We are off to the very aptly-named Honeymoon Island tomorrow for another day in paradise! :)
