Low and behold, I woke to noisy Americans again this morning. Get me out of here. I packed my stuff and checked out. I got directions to the car hire place and walked over. It was hot and a bit of a pain with my bags. I resisted the temptation to call a taxi and stopped at the petrol station for some breakfast. Those cartons of weetabix and chocolate milk are actually quite nice. I made it to the car hire place, only to find that they didn't have what I needed. So I had to get a taxi back to the airport branch and go from there. I just went with the flow and tried not to get stressed. Even when I was presented with my bright blue Daihatsu Sirion roller skate. I called Uncle Andrew who gave me rough directions to his house and I set off on my way. I found it easily with the occasional help of the map but no sat nav. Pretty chuffed with that. I grabbed some lunch on the way and discovered that eating whilst navigating winding roads was a messy business. Andrew heard me pull up and came out to welcome me to the land that time forgot. They had friends over with their 3 kids so with Zak and Eva aswell it was a bit of a mad house! Meeting my cousins for the first time was a bit weird too and Andrew could get over the fact I was 25 years older than his oldest one! We shared stories and chatted in the garden while the kids played. I think that'll be the only time in my life that I hear the words 'No Zak, you DO NOT throw avocados at people'. Bless him. He then found the BBQ tools and used the spatula to dig out mud pies from the paddling pool. He then threw these various places, including over me and the dogs. I threatened to ring his Aunty Jayne and tell her he'd been a naughty boy and funnily enough he behaved! Andrew then showed me round his plot, with all the chickens, pigs and horses. In the paddock we came across something in the field and Andrew casually said, 'Oh look, there's that possum I shot yeaterday'. He then took it round to the wood pile where he proceeded to cut its feet off with an axe and then sling it on the lawn for the dogs. I guess that's how they roll over here! I chilled for the rest of the afternoon and spent time with the family which was nice. I'd only ever met my Aunty Emma about once before and that was about 10 years ago. The kids were fed and it was bath time. As Andrew carried Zak through I heard him joke 'Behave or I'll drown you'. He hasn't changed. I chilled some more in the evening and we had venison stir fry for dinner, made from a deer he shot 2 week ago. Fresh home made food is awesome. We had a couple of drinks and then headed off to bed. I could definitely get used to this.....
