We really wanted a lye in today but had to be up at 6am to get to Kahalui Airport for our flight back to Honolulu. We still had petrol to use up in the Mustang so we had a fun and fast drive to the airport!! There were no tears when Nick returned his beautiful car but there was heartache, lol.
The flight was on time and all went smoothly. Incase of delays on that first flight back to Honolulu we gave ourselves a few hours spare, meaning once we were back at Honolulu we had to wait 2 hours before we could check in for our flight to LA. Once we were through security we went to Burger King which cost us a small fortune, $22 for 2 whopper meals, crazy airport prices!
Our flight was on time and we left Honolulu at around 1430. Was sad leaving Hawaii as we've had such an amazing time but we have already said we will come back one day if we can. Whilst on the runway waiting we saw 2 US airforce jets zoom down the runway and take off, once in the air they did a 45 degree angle turn and shot into the sky vertically! It was so cool. Our take off was not quite so dramatic!
The flight took around 5 and a half hours. Once we had our bags we tried to find a shuttle bus to the city. The airport was manic, people and cars everywhere. We were about to give up trying to find a shuttle and just get a taxi but we saw one drive past and followed it until it finally stopped to collect people. It cost us $16 each to get to our hostel, Banana Bungalow Hollywood.
On our drive into the city we couldn't believe the size of the houses, we thought they were hotels! Then I saw the sign, we were in Bel Air!! We continued driving through and then came to the Beverly Hills sign - we were now driving down Sunset Boulevard! Again the houses were simply un-real, they look big on TV but in real life it is frightening how big some of them really are. We also got to see the Beverly Hills Hotel on the drive in.
Our hostel is on Hollywood Boulevard. We are really happy as the hostel is great, our dorm is more like an apartment and at the moment there is just the 2 of us and one other girl in the entire 8 bed dorm! Bonus! Can you believe the other girl in our dorm is from Bognor - small world!
Kerry (our friend from Oz and NZ) is staying 2 dorm rooms down. It was really late by the time we got to the hostel but we still saw Kerry and chatted away, it was great to see her again. She took us out onto the balconyand there it was, in all it's glory . . . The Hollywood Sign!! WOW! We can't believe we are here!
