Arrived on Penang after an 8 hour train journey from KL, with a 20 minute ferry crossing onto the island. The journey was great fun and some of the scenery on the way was fantastic. Part of that journey was skirting round the Cameron Highlands which would have been amazing to stop off at, if we had more time. Could have done some serious trekking there.
Georgetown has been okay to visit, but a few days are enough. Seems to be choking on it's own fumes with the narrow streets and heaving traffic. It has been enjoyable though as we headed up to the Penang hills for the day taking the train the 900 feet or so to the top, which was an adventure in itself. Added to that a rope walk that took you through the jungle canopy was enough excitement for me!!!
The Olive Springs Hotel where we were staying was basic, but safe, clean and with really friendly family running it. Food was excellent too.
