After the usual routine of breakfast, bus, lecture, our group visited the Scotch Whisky experience, which consisted of a short ride in a replica distillery barrel through the process of making scotch whisky, followed by a tutored taste-testing of the four different types of scotch available. I opted to try the musky, peaty Islay scotch, which was...potent, to say the least!
The collection of scotch whisky stored in the next room was absolutely breathtaking. Wall upon wall of ancient, pristine bottles illuminated behind thick layers of glass. The sheer size of the collection was impressive, let alone the time and care taken to amass it.
After a short break for free time, we met up again at the Scottish Parliament for a guided tour of the building. While many people disliked the buildings strange asymmetrical design, I was intrigued by the minute references to Scottish culture placed by the architect throughout the structure.
