Nat and Beck Go Large!
We arrived back in Sydney on Thursday morning and managed to lug our very heavy backpacks up the hill to Wakeup. Unfortunately, due to the fact that 70 American lesbians were moving in to OUR hostel, we could only stay one night and had to move into a hostel down the road.
On Thursday we met up with Leigh and Shaun and ended up in Sidebar. To our delight 'Old Shaun' is back with a vengence! No more brow beaten Mr Nice Guy, he is officially not allowing himself to be stalked by the ever lovely Cher! Yay! Managed to bump into the rest of the boys from Byron Bay - which was nice!
On Friday we moved out of our hostel and into Down Town Backpackers. It was full of the most scary people in the world! We were sharing with what can only be described as the rejects from the loony bin. There was one exceptionally scary bird - she was about 50, Chinese and wore the same clothes for the 3 days and nights we were there. She slept for about 22 hours a day, and when she wasn't sleeping she was writing a novel of some sorts which we found out was called 'Vampire China and Australia Bloody Hell' - NIIIICE! Luckily she didn't kill us in our sleep (probably due to the fact we slept with one eye open) and despite sleeping on the tallest bunkbeds in the west we managed to escape unharmed! That night we met up with people from Wakeup again, and ventured down to Darling Harbour for a few drinks. Its really nice down there but a bit rammed in some of the bars soo we didn't last very long. We managed to bump into a bloke that we met in Melbourne, its a bit of a long story how we met him and Nat didn't really believe me about him at first - probably cos I told her I'd met a bloke called Deip who had a 'fro and I only saw him when I was alone in the bathroom at night. Basically when we were staying in St Kilda, I used to bump into him in the communal bathroom every night before I went to bed. On our last night there he came into the living room practically sat on me and started ruffling my hair, Natalie was a bit taken aback considering she'd never laid eyes on him before - and that was it or so we thought.
On Saturday we went for a jacket potato for lunch just to get out of the room where the crazies live. That night it was Mardi Gras in Sydney so we went to watch the parade with Leigh. It was a bit of a nightmare finding somewhere to watch it, but eventually we found a cheeky speck near an ambulance. Apart from Nat nearly headlocking some Chinese bloke with the fattest head in the world, it was lots of fun. There were every type of gay people you could possibly imagine. The parade was led by Dykes on Bikes but there were also Gay Catholics, Gay Families, Gay Farmers, Gay Cowboys (i've lost my horse and need a ride!!), Gay Quakers, Fairies, Fruits, Queers, Butterflies, Butch Birds and our personal faves the MAG bus - Mature Age Gays! Yay. I swear to you we saw Jack (sorry dad - but its true you were def Gay and Proud and dancing on the MAG bus on Saturday night!) and Christophe (quelle suprise - what can I say!) in the parade.
On Sunday we got a surprise call from Deip who came round and made us go drinking (really twisted our arms) at about 4pm. To be fair we didn't take much persuading, the hairiest bird in Australia and her very talkative/off her face mate moved into our room and we couldn't wait to get out! That night we went to Hard Rock Cafe and went back to Sidebar until it closed! Its amazing, the boy's 'fro really does grow the more beer he drinks, giggle giggle!
On Monday we hauled our backpacks back up to Wakeup at double speed 'cos we were so glad to be out of the Nut House! We managed to get back in our old room. Unfortunately Nat has the weird bed with no ladder, but her inner monkey prevailed and she managed to scale the heights! We met Deip for a celebratory breakfast and then caught a bus to Bondi Beach. We went shopping for a while, and Deip managed to chat up everything in a bikini within a ten mile radius. We stopped for a drink and watched the worlds craziest bloke transform himself from a dodgy looking drunk (complete with tattoos all over him) to the worlds scariest looking tranvestite Russian Princess (with furry hat and full length black coat in the midday heat!). After that we went to sunbathe before catching the bus back to the city. Last night we took very easy and met Rich for a coke before retiring to the TV room and had a relatively early night.
Today is our last full day in Sydney (sob) and we're going to do what we do best, go shopping then go drinking!
Lots of Love, Beck and Nat xxx
