We touched down on the tarmac at 7:30am and made our way to the outside world. JFK airport on the edge of New York City is absolutely huge. It has 8 huge terminals with at least 50 aeroplane docking gates in each. It was like a city itself.
After standing in the cold 4 degree weather for awhile, our lift arrived to take us into the city. On the boring freeways I found my tired eyes closing as I had only had 3 hours sleep on the plane. Once I hit the city edges my eyes flew open and stayed wide eyed and staring. We dropped our bags at the hotel and found we had 2 hours until we could check in.
We went for a walk around and found Times Square and had a great lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe there. I had a traditional American Mac 'n Cheese meal. It was delicious.
We the checked into the hotel and I had a Nanna nap. Around 4pm (which was 8am on Thursday for you) we went back out to Times Square and had a look around. I saw the biggest M&M store and had a rest with Yellow. The shop is 3 floors in size although most of what is sold is toys, t-shirts etc. Only a small part of the shop,is dedicated to the actual chocolate. The outside of the shop has a large billboard that is lit up and changes regularly. It shows the M&M's doing stuff and advertises the product.
Across the road is the Hershey shop and it was more reasonably priced and mainly had chocolate products for sale and not too many toys, t-shirts etc.
I walked around gawking like a true tourist and took lots of photos. Then we found a deli and I had my first bagel for dinner with bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, avocado and cucumber. It was delicious, as was the huge pretzel that we shared as an afternoon snack.
An early night is needed tonight as I plan on seeing as much of this city as possible.
By the way 5/6NE, you will be on my mind lots as two doors down is a restaurant named after one of you. See if you can find the photo.
