What should have been an hour and a half drive turned out to be three and a half.
I was so excited for Niagara. I literally wanted to leave early, spend all day there and come home early. But naturally, because you've been waiting a while for something and you're so excited, it never works out like you hoped.
Oh well, I'm pretty good at adjusting and going with the flow. Which is exactly what we had to do.
After waiting for everyone to get ready, check out and then be given access to our car we left Toronto at 11.
The traffic was crazy. For a Sunday anyways. I guess I'm not used to it. Back home, in Mount Isa, on a Sunday there is practically no traffic. In Brisbane, it's never as crazy as what Toronto was.
We were moving 10km/hour.
Can I just say how good it was to return to the normal way of measuring as well!? Back to kms and litres and meters. None of this miles per hour and inches bull stuff.
Then half an hour away from our destination we had to stop to use the bathroom, then everyone wanted lunch, which was another hour after ordering and eating and finding a toilet. Oh jeebus ahah.
Then it was back on the road again.
When we finally got to our destination I ran. I wasn't waiting for no one, I was too exciting. We saw the falls. First the USA side and even the big bridge that led you over to that side. And then the Canadian Horseshoe Falls.
We booked our Maid of the Mist tickets and waited an hour for our time slot to board. We got our ponchos and a good spot on the rails of the boat.
We went right up to the Horsehoe and it was remarkable. All you could see was white, and mist being sprayed everywhere. We turned around and got absolutely soaked. Thank you ponchos for saving us slightly!
Then back past the Canadian Falls where I pulled out my phone for a photo like a boss. Please see attatched.
Then it was back onto mainland and souvenir shopping time. It was almost 6.30pm by the time we left and we had a six hour drive ahead of us home.
We stopped on the way for Wendy's - which is a burger/fast food place here. Not like Australia, where it's an ice cream bar.
It wasn't until 1.30am that we managed to get into Potsdam. So late, but oh so worth it. The whole way home we were pumping the beats. We were those people you hear coming before you see them. And you can hear their music clearly even with their windows shut.
Going back through customs was terrifying. The man was not happy, and our French friend was driving and having her have to ask him to repeat somethings for her to understand was even scarier. You could tell he was getting annoyed. I personally think it was more because it was probably the middle of his shift at midnight. He'd been there for a while already and still had a while to go.
We got roused out because our visa papers were folded like they normally are, and didn't present them unfolded to him.
Needless to say, I will keep that paper unfolded at all times if it means I never have to get roused out by an American Boarder Security Officer again. They seem, to me, a little scarier then the coppers.
