After a late night, myself and my Niagra Falls travelling friends met out the front of Clarkson's Cheel Hall for a bus to travel to Cornwall Island, Ontario. To get to this island you had to go fully over to Canada, check in with Border Security, then head back over the bridge onto the island for the day.
There for the weekend was an International PowWow, Akwasasne.
I was so excited, I have a great fascination for the Native Canadians and Americans and here we were on our way to a celebration of them.
When we got there, it's was freezing cold, overcast and sprinkling rain.
We went into the field and could see the outside arena had been moved into the Sport Centre.
I was blown away. They were all wearing 'regalia'. It was proper etiquette to call them by that name, under no circumstances were you to call their attire a 'costume'.
There were hundreds of people dressed. Families with little children which were absolutely adorabe.
The grand entry began at twelve thirty and it was incredible seeing the hundreds of people dancing their way into the arena in a circular motion. They were moving to the music and their regalia was bouncing along with them .
The colours were amazing, the music had your heart filled with enjoyment (a little cheesy, I know) and everyone in the crowds were enjoying themselves.
The food carts had Indian nachos and corn to enjoy. They were even people from Germany attending the event.
It was definitely an experience I enjoyed and one I would not have had back home in Australia.
