A Semester Overseas
On Sunday, Becky and I went for a run and then we took the U-Bahn to the Prater, a park in Vienna, which used to be an imperial hunting ground. Now it holds a funfair in the western end of the park with the famous ferris wheel (see photos).
Then Becky and I went to Cafe Demel, another famous kaffeehaus to do our homework. I ordered a Grosser Brauner which is a large expresso with schlagobers (whipped cream).
Today, Becky and I found out that we got the teaching internships that we applied for. We had interviews for it during our orientation in Mariazell. About 100 people applied for it but only 40 people got internships so we were very happy that both of us got into it. The internship counts as a class and we get to go to schools around Vienna to teach english to Austrian students. It will definitely be a good experience because it will help improve my German even more and it will also allow me to get more involved with the community. So I'm excited for that. After our German class, we visited another famous kaffeehaus called Cafe Central.
For dinner, we met up with a bunch of people at a restaurant called the Centimeter. At the Centimeter, you can order "Der Schwert" which means The Sword. The waiter brings an actual sword to your table with enough wiener schnitzel on it to feed 9 people (see photos). It was very good and cheap for such a large portion of food!
