This was our first "official" day in Mazatlan. We walked down the street to the meeting of several of the Rotary Clubs of Mazatlan. For many of us, it was a chance to meet with old friends. There were several speeches- but the central discussion was one of partnership, friendship, Rotary and helping our communities wherever they may be.
Suzanna Perez, the mother of our former exchange student Paulina came for breakfast. It was nice to see her again.
After the breakfast meeting (another buffet) we left to the Mazatlan Television station.Allan, Pepe, Duncan, Murray, Frank and Harmwent on live talk TV for interviews regarding the project.Pepe again did a great media job.We then presented the TV station management and reporters with plaques in appreciation for their work with Rotary.
Then we left for the main newspaper of Mazatlan. We met with the management and presented them with appreciation plaques. They said that they just do their job in reporting our project, however they enjoy doing it and recognize the importance of Rotary in the community. They said that Rotary is the most important group of its kind.Went on a tour of another newspaper and also presented management with appreciation plaques.
As tradition dictates, the next step of the day is always big lunch. We went to the best sushi restaurant in the city and had course after course after course of Japanese food. Then it was siesta and many spent time by the pool etc taking a couple of hours off.
We then were back to work with a visit to another newspaper downtown. We met with the management and had a tour of the facility. They took lots of pictures and finally a group picture which we then saw layed out for the front page of tomorrows paper.I am sure that we will be buying the paper tomorrow.
It was 8:00 by the time we got back to the hotel for refreshments and then we scattered for supper or not ( still digesting lunch).
