Enjoyed a good evening at the Holiday Inn in Nogales. We were able to have a later start to give Pepe and Catcho (our Rotarian friends from Mazatlan) an opportunity to arrive in Nogales from Mazatlan. They drove through the night to meet with us this morning. They had a chance to have a shower and breakfast and then we went off to visit the customs folks at the US border. Allan did a great job and we were away from the US in record time with our papers stamped. Then it was the 10 km drive to the Mexican border. Got the first stage done within 45 minutes and then off to the holding area to start the waiting game.
As tradition dictates, we had a pool to guess the time of our departure. Everybody hopes that the early times will win. In this case the fourth earliest time did win and we left the border at 2:30 with Murray winning the pool with beer money for the crew. The process was painless and stress free- much easier than last year.
The drive to Hermosillo is only 300 km so we arrived just at darkness. The roads were okay, but busy and narrow. We all went out for steak supper tonight. The mariaji bands were playing. We had birthday cake for Pepe, who was good enough to spend his birthday with his Rotary Friends. Thanks Lorena.
This is our last night on the road. Tomorrow we will take on the biggest distance of the trip, with just over 850 km to Mazatlan.
Talk to you from Mazatlan.
