We enjoyed a great steak supper in Hermosillo last night and this morning we had a full breakfast buffet at the hotel. We know that it is going to be a long day without many stops- so it is best to eat while we can.
We stopped for fuel for everybody about 4 km away from our hotel and the propane bus discovered a brake fluid leak.We all spent time contemplating the issue and calling a break mechanic. So the two buses stayed behind in Hermosillo with Pepesan to find a mechanic and fix the leak while the rest of us continued on to our lunch stop.We arrived at our lunch stop at 1230 and had our lunch and then the two buses showed up.The bus never got fixed- but the cure is to continue to add fluid.
This is the longest leg of our journey (about 900 km at 94 km max speed).Mexico is a large diverse county. The trip has varying road quality that can present challenges. The country side is varied from desert to heavy agricultural areas- growing corn and hops- thus the beer factories.Lots of pig operations by the smell of things.
So we subsisted on truck stop convenience foods(?) and soldiered toward our goal of Mazatlan where we knew there was beer.
We could see the lights of the city at Km 8 (only 8 to go) when the propane bus ran out of propane.I believe that there was some temptation to leave it beside the freeway.
But the crew rallied and after 3 false starts and some ingenuity, got the bus moving down the road.
The fire trucks arrived first in Mazatlan with Pepe. The Mazatlan bomberos had been waiting patiently through the evening to see their new ladder truck. They were not disappointed.Colleen from GP met us at the aquarium where we park the vehicles and took us to the Los Flores where Pat, Thelma and Millie were awaiting (they had flown in from Edmonton)The buses arrived, and we finally got the drinks we needed.
Allan thanked everybody for their efforts.
