Today was a pretty hard day because we reached 4600 meters going through the Salkantay pass. There was lots of snow on the mountains. It was a quite beautiful hike. We started in the valley and continued to go up until the pass. I didn't walk slow as the guide suggested, but tried to keep up with JN, who was way ahead of me. It was very difficult to breathe. This was the highest point I'm been to in my life. Beartrice was very worried up to now, but she was relieved and super happy that she handled it well, and didn't get altitude sickness. The 10 hour day got tougher in the afternoon, when it got really muddy going through the rainforest. We were practically sliding ok mud, while it was raining on and off. We had to wait before we reached the campsite because it was pouring. Once we got to the campsite. I was in a crappy mood and my headache started getting worse. It was wet and I was covered with mud. All I wanted to do was crawl into the tent and sleep. Unfortunate, my headache started to get worse, until it turned into the worse migraine. I skipped dinner, and JN was running in and out of tent trying to help me, because I was throwing up periodically. I don't know if it was altitude sickness or just lack of sleep, but i don't remember getting this sick in a long time. They decided to give me some oxygen but I didn't like it too much. Finally, I fell asleep, and the next day I felt 100% like myself again. We had a very easy flat hike, and got to the campsite very early, so had time to relax. I got to know some people at the campsite, one couple from NY and one from the UK. It was nice to be able to relate to them, because they were not experienced hikers. I played cards with them after dinner and really enjoyed it.
