Today we finally visited Macchupiccu. We had a guided visit with Erick for three to four hours and then had time to explore on our own for a couple of hours. The place is absolutely amazing, it takes your breath away. Located on a mountain in a cloud forest, periodically covered by mist, it looks like a magical place. The architecture and design of the city are very unique, and sophisticated. I could spend days there, without getting tired of it. There were some llamas on the terraces, which was a nice surprise. We decided to climb huyana picchu mountain, which gives a different perspective to see Macchupiccu. It's really high and steep. I didn't think I was up to it, after all the hiking we've done over the past 8 days (130 km, to be exact). I decided to try the hike, which was supposed to take one hour to go up, but because we were racing each other took us 30-35 minutes. A bit crazy, I know, but I wanted to spend more time on the top, so it was worth it. We climbed on the highest rock we could find. Macchupiccu looked tiny from the top. We couldn't see much detail of the city, but could observe all the agricultural terraces behind the city, that could not be seen otherwise. It took us another 30 minutes to get down (I was practically running). It was mostly stairs, some of them very slippery and steep, so you had to be careful. It was very hard to leave this place. Unfortunately, we had to return to Cuzco that afternoon. Our crazy 9 day marathon was over...
