Nonna & JN's Trip Around The World 2012
Today we started our 9 day trek to macchu pichu via choquequirao. The 4 hr drive to cachora was spectacular, as the road follows very deep canyons and we saw lots of mudslides. The hike was easy, about 17km of flat trail and then a drop of 1000m to get to our campsite over the apurimac river at chiquiska. Our path had to go over mudslides too and we witnessed how hard it was for our mules. The vistas were very impressive, over glaciers, high peaks and extremely deep gorges. We saw a hawk and a condor, as well as a "tarantula hunter" wasp. Our guide speaks good English and is very knowledgeable about the region so.... So far so good! As long as it doesnt rain too much the next stages will be very nice too!
