This morning we got up at 2am to climb volcano Batur for the sunrise. It wasn't a difficult climb, but the challenge was in the fact that we were so sleepy and it was pitch dark climbing up on the lava rocks all the way to the top. Once we reached the summit, it started raining, so we had to wait and see if it clears up. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of a sunrise. We waited till it stopped raining, and walked down. Saw the huge crater and a cave that formed from an eruption. Once we descended, we could see the beautiful lake Batur in front of a mountain. After the hike, we decided to treat ourselves to a king and queen treatment at a spa. It's a one-hour massage followed by a scrub, followed by a yogurt mask, followed by a flower bath, all of that for $15... Not bad! After the lovely spa treatment I went to a cooking class at Casa Luna to prepare a special Balinese dish - Smoked Duck. It was a 3 hour class, and at the end you eat what you prepare, which was pretty much a feast. I really enjoyed the class/demonstration, especially watching the unique smoking technique which involves a dome of shelled rice lit up on fire, and takes eight hours of slow cooking - amazing.
