Aussie outback, from the blue mountains to the barossa valley
After a couple of hours driving from having our lovely showers we stopped at carcoar dam where we spent the evening. It was a lovely camping ground, a little too windy if we were being critical! We enjoyed a treat night, mint and rosemary marinated lamb steaks accompanied by some beer. Then after we opened the tempus two moscato and the cockfighters ghost verdelho which we had purchased in the hunter valley... we can assure you that these are both fantastic wines and went down a treat.
The following morning we began a biggish driving day, where we covered approxiamately 450km... Lucy have to break hard to avoid a fox in the middle of the road at one point. We eventually settled down for the night at a rest area just past griffith, we being the only people there... in the middle of knowhere, apart from some roadworkers cabins dumped there too. Also that day we had to throw away 2 oranges and a cucumber, and also eat 2 apples before we entered a quarantine zone for fruit flies... brilliant!
The following day we covered over 500km, mostly in the outback... Lucy hitting a cockatoo in the process! We stopped for some lunch at Gol Gol in the glorious sunshine then drove through the lovely town of Mildura (wish we had maybe stayed there as it looked really nice)... the weather was amazing considering we had been driving through heavy rain for the whole morning. As we entered into south australia we came across a quarantine search point where we had to give up our onion!! Wasn't worth the massive fine in trying to smuggle it in.
We eventually stopped for the evening just past renmark, where we stayed at a nice rest area... shame about there being a serious problem of flys there. It got to the point where we went back into town and bought some fly/mosquito killer spray... it did the trick!
