So after a year of planning we've finally arrived in Buenos Aires. The 14 hour flight was made slightly less horrendous by the fact that we had a spare seat next to us. Oh and Mamma Mia and the Sex and the City movie were on the entertainment system.
We arrived at the airport yesterday with no drama however despite our best efforts to negotiate a reasonable price for our taxi to our hostel and asking him to put the meter on, when we arrived he charged us 600 pesos which is around US$200!!!!!! He wouldn't let us out of the taxi until we paid. When we got into the hostel the staff were so outraged that we had paid that much that they phoned the local police. We went to the police station to make a statement and ended up getting a free tour of Buenos Aires in a police car, sirens and all. The policeman, Daniel, looked like something out of Miami Vice with his white jeans and sunglasses. He was quite taken with us and is going to email us the names of the best clubs in B.A. No more getting ripped off as we have our own personal contact in the Argentinian police force.
Our hostel is really nice and the staff are very friendly. However it's a little bit quiet so we're moving tomorrow to Milhouse. We've had some really nice cheap meals here. Liv has already eaten steak twice in two days. We've walked around most of the city which seems to be really lively. We bonded with some Canadian girls who had also been ripped off on their first day in BA and we're going out on a pub crawl tonight. We'll let you know how that goes!
It´s been a great couple of days and we're excited about going to a Tango show and visiting the port. We won't let the most expensive taxi drive in the world ruin our stay in an amazing city.
