We stopped in Buenos Aires for a night, got our hair cut and then caught a bus to Puerto Iguazu to see the falls. The bus was incredible we got given champagne before bed! The 19 hours flew by as they played three films including Man on Fire which although is a brilliant film it probably isnt the best film to show to a bus full of tourists in South America as it is about kidnappings in SA!
Our hostel was called the Marcopolo Inn and had a swimming pool which was fantastic. The weather was much more humid and tropical than the rest of Argentina we could tell we were getting closer to Brazil and the Amazon. The town of Puerto Iguazu is about 40 minutes away from the National Park.
Once we arrived we went for a walk to the ´tres frontieres´which is a point on the river where you can see Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina. So we can now say we have seen Paraguay even if we havent quite made it there yet.
We didnt have a great nights sleep as the rude Israelis in our room stood by our heads having a conversation till 3.00am. Usually we wouldnt be asleep that early but as the point of the town is to get up early to see the waterfall we didnt think we were being that unreasonable. Liv had the duvet covering her head until she couldnt stand it anymore and sat up and glared at the one we knew the best. Instead of apologising he just offered her ice cream. She was like "no I dont want ice cream" through clenched teeth but it did the trick and they finally shut up.
When we arrived at the falls we took a train down to the first set of trails through the rainforest. The train was quite disney-esque but as it was quite open it was a great way to travel through the rainforest. We walked along the upper trail first which gives an amazing view looking down over the waterfalls from above. The sheer volume of water going over the edge was just incredible. No words can really describe how beautiful and awe-inspiring the falls are. They are the largest number of waterfalls in the world and having seen them you can see why Eleanor Roosevelt on seeing them said "poor Niagra". You can walk next to the falls on three different levels;above, half way down and at river level.
Walking through the forest we also saw lots of wildlife including Coatis (racoon like animals) lots of birds, spiders, small and HUGE lizards (we dont know the proper names of any of these). We spent 8 hours walking around the falls and the park and it was an amazing day.
We forgot to mention earlier that as well as sharing our room with the Israelis we were also blessed as we were sharing a room with Luca, an Austrian student who has been studying in Buenos Aires, who we dubbed Mr Perfect. He was very good looking, spoke loads of languages and generally was really nice. We both fell a little bit in love with him and became very silly and giggly whenever he was around. As did every other girl in the hostel.
Anyway... that night as it was our last night in Argentina we went in search of Steak and red wine to celebrate our time in Argentina. We went to a restaurant called Color which is usually a pizza restaurant but they also have a fantastic grill. There was a 400g bife de chorizo on the menu which the owner showed us and told us he could halve if for us. It came out and it was absolutely huge but delicious. Perfectly cooked and tender, all for only three pounds each!!! It was a very suitable end to our great stay in Argentina we cant believe its over its gone so quickly but has been so much fun.
