Today (Saturday) we didn't have to go another school meeting so we decided to go explore the city so more. We left the apartment around 12:30 andwent to a farmer's market type thing right by out apartment which had lots of cheeses, fruits, vegetables, meat, and some clothes. Then we had lunch at a Chinese restaurant!! The restaurant itself was really nice. However, the plates of food were sooooooooo small. I'm use to ordering a plate of food and it being big enough for 5 people. But our fried rice, chicken, and beef were all on plates the size of like my hand. I would have had to eaten 2 whole plates of those dishes by myself to be maybe be satisfied, but instead I had 3 dishes to share with 4 people. I mean it was enough food so I wasn't starving, but you know me! I like lots of food!
So then we walked to the Jewish Ghetto (that's what it's actually called!) and there is a street of stores, shops, and restaurant. We didn't think that very much would be going on because it's Saturday (a religious day for Jews) so we didn't see much of the Ghetto. But I did take pictures of a beautiful Jewish synagogue (hopefully we'll be able to go inside next time we go). And at the Ghetto there is the area of ruins. I'm not sure how old they were but it was still cool to see.
We walked around Rome some more and I got a panino (Italian sandwich) as lunch #2 because the Chinese food did not fill me up at all of course. We saw lots of fountains and Piazzas, which are like courtyards/squares. We saw a lot of other ruins, fountains, the National Monument of Victor Emmanuel II for the guy who unified Rome after WWII (I have picture, but we didn't go inside because I was closed. But I'll let you know who it's actually for and what the name of it is), and I saw the Coliseum from far away. I am actually going to the Coliseum tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our program set up a guided tour around the Coliseum and around there. So I'm excited to see it and get information on it from a tour guide. I'll let you know all about it and put lots more pictures after I go tomorrow! It is going to be so amazing.
P.S.Our 6th roommate is coming tomorrow. She was sick last week so that's why she missed that last 4 days. But my roommates and I all joke right now about how it's going to be so weird to have a 6th roommate when the 5 of us have already bonded so much. We call her "Number 6" because we didn't know her name, but we got an email today that said her name is Kori and she's getting in tomorrow at 7pm. Even though we know her name we still say "Number 6" when we mention her. It's really funny, but I'm sure she'll be great (I hope anyway).
