It's amazing how I am now able to get around without getting too lost. Our neighborhood is sooo incredible cute and I just love it to death. It is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Tiber River. And once you cross the river you're in the center of the city. So I like that Trustier (the neighborhood) is still party of the city and is busy but it is a little bit less hectic than the center of Rome. We cross the river everyday to get to the study center and to explore some more.
Thursday night my roommates walked for 3 hours straight! We left at 9:30 and didn't get back home until 12:30. The river is beautiful at night (I took pictures) and all the streets and allies are gorgeously dimly lit. We walked to the Pantheon which I think was like temple for Roman Gods. I don't like that most monuments don't have a description or summary of its history. Anyway, the Pantheon was sooooo enormous and beautiful (look at my pictures). We were there at night so we weren't able to go inside. I am most definitely going to go back during the day so I can go inside the Pantheon. It was really funny because right in front of the Pantheon was a Mc Donald's!!! So you look at this gorgeous structure and then turn 180 degrees and Mc Donald's it right there. There are a lot of Mc Donald's in Rome. I've seen at least 3. And Mc Donald's has signs everywhere the look like bus stop signs but they point to a Mc Donald's or historical monuments. It's funny.
There are also a lot of Gelaterias. And I mean a LOT. There were on every corner. Just like the 노래방's in Korea! Gelaterias sell Gelato which is a kind of Italian ice cream. Gelato is lighter and smoother than ice cream. There are like a million flavors: chocolate (many different kinds of chocolate), hazelnut, pistachio, tiramisu, cheesecake, fruits (cherry, black berry, mango, bleu berry, etc.), and so much more. We went to this really great Gelateria a block from the Pantheon and this particular place even puts a huge dollop of whip cream. It was amazing!!! I got chocolate, hazelnut, and tiramisu with whip cream. (look at my picture with me and my cone!) The scoopers all spoke English so helped us pick yummy flavors.
After the Pantheon we got a little bit lost, but not too lost because we have a really good map of the city. We were walking along the Tiber River and saw the Vatican in the distance so we decided to walk over there. It was really pretty because the lights at night were nice. We didn't explore the Vatican too much. We just took some picture of the building and went back home because it was getting pretty late. I know that I am going to go back there but I want to go in the day so there will be more things to see.
Today (Friday), we had another meeting at school. They basically told us the exact same things as they did before: to be careful about getting things stolen and don't talk to strange people. So far I haven't experienced anything negative. 1 of my roommates knows a tiny bit of Italian so were use her and a dictionary to get around. But we basically speak English. Most everyone that we've interacted with knows at least a little English. So we can order food and shop (all you need to know is "how much is this?").I've eaten some type of pizza at least once or twice every single day. There are pizzerias everywhere. But I love pizza so I haven't gotten sick of it yet, thank goodness!!!!!
