Mike and Nina's Australia and Fiji Trek
Good day Mates! Well what a few days it's been. I will start from the beginning of Thursday. Jet lag is a beautiful thing for a boy and girl who can't normally get out of bed in the morning. The alarm went off Thursday morning at 6:00 and we were already in the shower and half dressed (separately to clarify). Too bad the flip side of all of this new found energy in the AM means we are asleep by 9 or 10 at night. We are trouble when we go back over the date line!! Any way, besides that we took a bus to Townsville and went White water rafting. It was a blast!! We travelled 12 km down stream in the middle of the rainforest. In our pics we called ourselves the rescue team because in fact that's what we were!! David Hasselhoff and crew had nothing on us that day. Going down a category 4 when a fellow Canadian crew tipped and went in. We were closest team to the carnage so we lept into action and hauled our fallen comrades from the croc infested waters. Ok I am exaggerating but we did haul them into our boat and saved them the pain of crashing into the rock ahead. It was a highlight. Another highlight I will not say, hopefully nina adds it to her postcard....hint....someone else ended up in the water!!! The final highlight of that day was seeing a 10 foot long Python on the wild. It was on the bank of the river....Huge..opps Chief and Timmy I mine UGE!!!
Today was another great day. We went out to the Great Barrier Reef. All I can say is Holy S#@%. It was unbelievable the stuff we saw out their. The water were amazing. Janet you can tell Claire that the water was just like we were in Finding Nemo. And tell her I saw a few clown fish exactly like Nemo. Very cool. I have a picture for her later. We snorkelled for a long while in and around the reef. We saw one shark!! Not a scary one (Edna and Barb). A turtle, a million of the most colourful fish and for a brief 40 minutes I (Mike) tried my best impersonation of a Navy Seal however ended up no better than Scuba Steve!! It was fun but I must admit I enjoyed the snorkelling better. The biggest difference was the fact that the 35 minutes I was diving I had to concentrate toooo much on staying alive and that's not always fun when there is 100000000000 tons of water on your body. Any way I could go on all night but we are about to catch a bus to Airle Beach!! Next stop Whitsundays!! Cheers!!
