Mike and Nina's Australia and Fiji Trek
Hello all!! We made it safe and sound to Australia. It only took a stealth 36 hours. To pass the time we read books, watched 3 movies, did our ankle pumps, tried to sleep, read some more and stared at the back of the seat (8 inches) infront of our faces.
This is our first real day in Cairns. So far we've been exploring the city. We've been walking for 9 hours just taking in the sites. 9 hours isn't bad considering that we slept for 15 hours last night. But the good news is, we think we've got that jet lag knocked! The city is beautiful. It's surrounded by ocean and really green mountains. Driving is going to be a little crazy! We had to peek into a car today just to find out the orientation of the peddles. Crazy people drive on the wrong side of the road. It put a whole new meaning for looking both ways before crossing the street because we never trust what side of the street the cars will come from. Its an odd thing.
We watched the hockey game in a bar with a bunch of crazy canucks. Disappointing end but fun non the less. Sampled our first aussie beer (victoria bitter) to drown our sorrows.
In the next few days before leaving Cairns we will be taking a boat out to the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel and dive, a gondola ride into the mountains, checking out the beaches, and tons of other fun stuff to tell you about another day. Well thats all for now. Have a great Tuesday!! We've already done it, it was fun.
