Mike and Nina's Australia and Fiji Trek
Hi all. We are back from the dead. We are back on solid ground and washing every day. It feels good to be clean again, but dirty was a whole lotta fun! This past weekend truly has been the highlight of our trip. We did a lot of great things, visited a lot of great places and made some really good friends. This is going to be a short one because we only have one more night is Aussie and we want to spend it having fun rather than typing. So here is the coles notes version.....
We spent 3 days/2 nights on the sailboat enid. It was absolutely amazing. We spent the 3 days snorkelling, suntanning, hanging out on the beach, feeding baricudas, and most of all getting to know a few people from other places in the world. On the boat we met 4 great people: an englishman, irishman, and an american and english girl (Rick, Cormack, Kristin, and Alice). We quickly became good friends and spent the 3 days laughing, talking, calling each other names and drinking "Goon" - our Aussie wine in a box, and learning about life in other parts of the world. We saw a ton of sea life including Baracudas, flat fish, giant Mauri Wrasse, sharks and a billion little fish and coral.
After Whitsundays we were on to Fraser Island for a camping and 4X4 adventure. Unfortunately Cormack had to head north but Kristin, Aniita, Rick, Mike and Alice forged ahead south and became the Team KARMA (clever name credited to Alice. It's and acronym for each of our names). Cormack if you are reading, you were missed! As you can see from the multitude of pictures we visited a few lakes, played on the beaches and in the sand dunes, drove over crazy roads and went on the hunt for Dingos. Alas, we didn't see any Dingos...but Mike and Rick saw something in the dark that they claim were Dingos. (it may have been stumps) We did manage to see whales, a turtle, a manta ray, and eagles. Campimg was very fun. We've never camped on a beach before...with th threat of wild dingos eating you if you have to go pee. But all in all it was great fun. Gotta go now and explore Brisbane before we are off to Fiji. To our newest members to the website welcome be safe and enjoy the rest of your travels!!
