Another great nights sleep!
You may have read in a previous post that I had had some issues with hills. They faded to nothingness compared with some of the b*****s I went up yesterday!
Going into the moors was fine. I stopped off to get supplies at
the co-op in Ashburton (3 bananas, 2 bread rolls, 1 pack of salami, 1 tin of baked beans with sausages, 1 pack chicken cupasoup, and 1 pack of haribo (tangfastics of course)).
In Ashburton, outside coop, I got talking to an old local man, 79, and he gave me alternative directions to Widecombe in the moor saying "this way you'll only ave 1 lil hill at the start pard".
He either stitched me up royally or I got the instructions a little wrong.
Many hills - tough going up fun going down- later I found myself bang slap in the middle of the moors and ready to set up camp. This has been the best campsite yet! I'm tucked in behind the shelter of an old brick wall with panoramic views of the top of Dartmoor stretching out in front of me.
There were lots of moments yesterday when, cresting a hill, my breath caught in my throat as I was blown away by the amazing views. More big silly grins.
I've had almost 12 hours sleep totally protected from the wind by wall, tarp and bivvy bag and am now about to have a banana, cupasoup and bread roll for breakfast (the tangfastics barely survived the first hill).
The plan today is to head towards
Tavistock and make a decision about my route from there.
My sleeping bag is still very cozy though so I may just sit here for a wee while longer.
