Today Sharon and I visited the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. This was reached by a pleasent river boat trip about 20k up river, past one of the largest Flying Fox bat colonies in the country. The critters are about half a meter in length and there were thousands of them hanging from the trees along the river.
When we reached the Sanctuary, we went right in for a photo with a koala. Sharon and I got to meet Hazel. She was a pretty cool little lady. We both had photos taken and made into postcards. Then we went about and checked out the other critters. More kangaroos, which Sharon finally was comfortable going up to and petting, dingos, lots of Koalas, a Cassowary, many different birds, and wombats, and some other little critters that are native to this land. It was a very nice day and on the way back we sat out on the back of the boat and had a few beers in the sun. We met a very nice couple from England and their two kids and shared a laugh or two.
Back to the hotel to pack for our trip tomorrow up to Cairns.
