This morning we visit the Ancient city of Heropolis. The ruins of the Greco Roman city are not the reason we have come here. Over millions of years the calcium rich thermal water that's been pouring out of the ground and then dried up has created calcium terraces. The Turks refer to them as the cotton terraces as anything white to them is likened to cotton where we would most likely compare it to snow. The fairytale Snow White and the Seven dwarfs is told to the Turkish children as The Cotton princess and the seven dwarfs.
The water that still cascades down the terraces is caught in pools and people are permitted to walk or sit in these pools. The water is warm, the silt is silky smooth chalk dust and when not disturbed is clear and from a distance a very pretty blue.
Truly an amazing site and experience, we are grateful to have over 90 minutes to enjoy and explore.
Omer had warned us to take a bag in which to put our shoes in while we were walking on the terraces as the local resident dogs take a liking to them and have been seen wandering off to have a chew.
I have never seen so many dogs and cats just wandering a round at all of theses sites. They dogs don't appear vicious or even interested in people. In some places the cats and their kittens almost out number the tourists.
We now have a 4 hour drive to Antalya where we will spend 2 nights Woo Hoo!! No early morning wake up call and no bags to be out at the door. It will be like a mini holiday from our holiday!
