Left our lovely hotel in Konya this morning at 8.30am. The hotel was across the road from a shopping centre and after our lovely 4 course meal last night we went for a wander but it was not very interesting at all. Unfortunately the air con in this hotel was not very effective so most of us sweltered overnight but everyday after lunch we have nap time on the bus so that will give everyone a chance to catch up.
We have visited the tomb of the founder of the Whirling Dervish sect Mevlana. this is within a museum which is home to a number of interesting artifacts including 9th century original copies of the Koran. I will hopefully be able to explain more about the Whirling Dervishes after we see them in a performance tonight but It is a religious sect.
Next we stop at the Caravanserai of Sultanhami. The merchants would travel across the country with their camels and the Caravanserai was built as a place of shelter and rest fog the merchants and their animals. It's a huge building with an open air courtyard and misket ( small mosque) in the centre surrounded by rooms where the merchants could rest and an enormous undercover area for the camels.
Back on the bus ( the seat rotation has put us in the front seats today above the driver so Glenn is in his element snapping away with the camera.
Lunch was at Aksaray and we are now on our way to Cappadocia.
