Early start today to get to Ephesus before the crowds and it gets too hot. We spend an hour with Omer getting the explanation of the ruins. We have been to Ephesus before but in the six or so years there have been further areas uncovered. A new accessible area is the terrace houses. There are 7 houses of the well to do people of the city. The area is completely under cover while the restoration and recovery is going on. There are trestle tables full of pieces of marble and stone where the archeologists are painstakingly putting together the puzzles. We climb up steps to each level to view the houses and restorations. A lot of work is taking place , I don't think it will ever end as Ephesus was such a large city.
In total we spend 2 hours in Ephesus, it's getting very hot so back on the bus there is a rush for the cold water that our driver provides for us in his fridge.
Lunch again is a buffet style at a very nice restaurant.
We visit the house of the Virgin Mary which is way up on top of a hill near Ephesus. It is said that this is the place where Paul took Mary after the crucifixion.
Next it's the archeological museum at Selcuk where the artifacts which have been recovered from the Ephesus site. Enough history for one day so we head to the little bar for a much needed beer.
Tonight our hotel is right on the coast near Kusadasi. The sea looks so inviting so we wasted no time getting down to the pier. The water is so refreshing and clean and beautiful. It's very easy to just bob around even though it is very deep because it is very very salty.
The swim was fantastic. It's our first swim in the Aegean Sea.
We have a great view of Kusadasi , the ocean and the pool and grounds of the hotel from our room and balcony. Our WiFi while supposed to be available is fairly hit and miss at the moment.
We have our dinner on the terrace overlooking the ocean. It's a beautiful evening and we sit with Bob and Carol a retired couple from Florida. As we gradually make our way through the group we are finding everyone to be interesting and easy to mix with. It's a good group.
