Spanish, Spanish, and more Spanish is a HUGE them of living in the homestay.Learning Spanish and NEEDING to communicate about things in another language has pushed me more than anything else in this program.I constantly have to put up with making mistakes and focusing really hard to understand what is being said to me.It is GREAT for me and I think has made me a bit more relaxed about the mistake thing.I will say that I tend to use the phrases Muy Bien and Esta Bien way too much, it is like word vomit, it just comes out with everything…NOOO. I still am quite horrible at Spanish and have a long way to go, but I am proud of myself for starting to learn Spanish in this way.It truly is the fastest way to get better at using the language.I hope to continue it when I return to the states because I see the use of Spanish allowing me to reach out to more people in Environmental Education, particularly living in San Diego.I also see that many environmental issues are strongest in Spanish speaking countries, causing more incentive for me to become better at Spanish.
