(17th Sep) After watching the boring safety video of how to drive on Fraser Island we picked up our 4x4 truck and caught the ferry across to Fraser and headed off to the first place on our itinery being Lake Mackenzie. This was an amazing lake which is made of fresh water so whilst having a swim we filled our bellies with the free water save us carrying it around later!! We were in a small group of 7 which was nice as we all got on and it ment we had more room than other groups as they were put in groups on 11! We visited a ship wreck along the beach called Maheno before arriving at our base for the night. The campsite was an aboriginal site called K'gari and here was where we met the other unique fraser island group who were to share the site with us for the evening. We cooked our tea then sat around the campfire talking, drinking and playing games. The comedian of the group (Cian)decided that after a few beers it would be a good idea to wrestle another bloke from the other group which ended in Cian falling over and splitting his head open and finding this very funny until the morning.
After a very entertaining evening we headed off in our truck which by now had adopted the name 'Bruse the Bruiser' for very obvious reasons! We arrived at Indian Head where we al;l climbed to the top and looked out to the ocean where we saw Turtles,Stingrays,Whales and a few Sharks swimming below, the view from here was amazing! After a long hike down the cliff edge we headed off to Champagne pools where we had a swim in one of the 3 natural pools this was well worth it given that we decided to walk across to them in barefeet which was not funny at all we still have the scratched to prove it!! Rocks seem to be very slippery when you have no grip! Eli creek was another place we visited today which was a stream that you float down as the current guides you! all very cool! By this time it was getting late so we headed off to find the site we would be staying at for the night. We pitched up our tents had a shower, cooked tea and had a few beers around the fire.
After waking up to find out tent had decided to become a puddle in the night we had breakfast then headed off for our last day on fraser island! Lake Wabby was our first stop. This is a lake which you have to walk 1.8km to get too over sand dunes,so after yet another hike we were glad to see the lake in the end where we all jumped in for a dip! After our swim we headed back to Bruce to visit one more lake on the Island called Lake Maribbean. After a short trek up the hillside Bruce decided to break down on us! After trying to get him to start to no avail 2 of the group headed off with a passer by to phone for help! The rest of us sat in the back of the truck eating cornflakes and the famous name game! A short while later the boys returned with a Mechanic who investiagted the problem and got us on our way again! As we had missed our ferry we were now booked on the later one but decided to miss the lake and head straight for the ferry for the return back to the mainland. With all of us smelling really bad we all had showers then ordered pizzas in for tes and played cards the rest of the evening.
